On a crisp autumn morning, a group of us set off on an unforgettable journey to Warwick Castle, one of England’s most iconic medieval fortresses. Originally built by William the Conqueror in 1068, the castle stands as a testament to nearly a thousand years of history, intrigue, and grandeur.
Thanks to the generosity of Merlin Entertainments, which organises events at the castle, Ukrainian families and their hosts were offered free tickets for this special experience. This incredible opportunity allowed us to step back in time, explore the castle’s rich heritage, and enjoy a day filled with excitement and discovery.
Travelling to Warwick by train, we arrived eager to explore the castle’s imposing towers, historic halls, and expansive gardens. From the moment we stepped inside, we were immersed in the sights and sounds of medieval England. The day was filled with interactive exhibits, living history displays, and hands-on activities, making it an experience to remember for all ages.
One of the most thrilling moments was witnessing a live jousting tournament, where knights in shining armour clashed in a dramatic display of skill and bravery. The energy of the crowd, the thunder of hooves, and the clash of swords brought history to life in a way that left everyone in awe.
Another highlight was the majestic birds of prey display, where we watched in amazement as falcons, owls, and eagles soared effortlessly through the sky, demonstrating their speed and precision just metres above our heads. It was a breathtaking spectacle that added to the magic of the day.
Beyond the arena, the castle grounds were alive with activities. Children delighted in exploring the Horrible Histories Maze, where they uncovered quirky facts and challenged themselves to escape the winding paths. Inside the Great Hall, we marvelled at medieval armour, weapons, and tapestries, each telling its own story of the past.
From the battlements, we took in sweeping views of the surrounding Warwickshire countryside, imagining what life might have been like for those who once stood in the same spot centuries ago. Whether walking through the ancient dungeons, testing our courage in the Kingmaker attraction, or simply enjoying the autumn sunshine in the beautifully maintained gardens, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
As the day drew to a close, we reflected on what had been a truly magical experience. It was more than just a visit to a historic site—it was a chance to come together as a community, share laughter and wonder, and create lasting memories.
A heartfelt thank you to Merlin Entertainments for making this experience possible and to everyone who took part, making the day so special. Warwick Castle’s rich history, thrilling performances, and stunning setting will stay with us long after the trip itself.
