From Welcome Group to Lifeline

Solutions to Help People

Originally founded as a Welcome & Support community group in Solihull, West Midlands, our initiative was driven by a deep commitment to assist Ukrainian refugees following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The effort gained momentum with the support of Kathleen O'Hara, one of the first local hosts under the 'Homes for Ukraine' scheme, launched by Her Majesty's Government in 2022.

Supporting Since 2022

Empowering Refugee and Migrant Communities Since 2022

BRAMA, founded by Ukrainians Olga Meglinskaya and Natalia Rozhin, who have lived in the United Kingdom for many years, has been a vital source of support for refugee and migrant communities since February 2022. The organisation focuses on providing practical assistance and fostering connections to help individuals adapt to their new lives.

Supportive Community for Integration

Welcoming Ukrainians to a New Beginning

With approximately 350 Ukrainians arriving—primarily women and children—BRAMA recognises their unique needs and actively supports their integration by cultivating a warm and inclusive environment.

Brama became a registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in August 2023, supporting our community, including refugees, asylum seekers and disaster survivors with tailored resources and support.

Inclusion for New Communities

Help People, Our Main Goals

Our mission is to promote social inclusion for individuals facing social and economic challenges due to war, natural, or humanitarian disasters by providing:

English & Job

We are dedicated to helping you master the English language for both personal and professional purposes. Our tailored language programmes provide you with the skills necessary to navigate various social situations and communicate effectively in the workplace, empowering you to interact confidently in your new environment.

Cultural exchange

We also organise events aimed at cultural exchange helping better adaptation into the United Kingdom. Our events include language clubs, workshops, cultural events and social gatherings where you can make new friends and learn more about British traditions. We strive to create a friendly atmosphere where everyone can feel part of the community and receive support in addressing various issues related to living in a new country.

Welcome Hubs

We have welcome hubs where we provide a friendly environment, designed to offer a space for meetings, learning and interaction. Here you can participate in training sessions, seminars and other events aimed at supporting your adaptation and development.

Community trips

We organise group trips to the main attractions of the United Kingdom to provide a deeper understanding of our culture, which significantly improves adaptation to life here. These excursions allow participants to visit historical and cultural landmarks, understand British traditions and customs and enjoy the beauty of our country in the company of like-minded people.

Wellbeing

We consider all the aforementioned extremely important, but what about mental health? It is the foundation of every person's well-being and we pay special attention to it. The people who seek our help have experienced much grief and hardship, so we have organised art therapy to help restore their mental health after difficult trials.

How We Started

In the wake of the Russian invasion, four Ukrainian students in the UK find themselves stranded without parental support. These young individuals face immense emotional distress, constant worry for their loved ones, and the struggle to meet their basic needs. To address their dire situation, we have launched a fundraising campaign to provide essential resources and emotional support.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to our teacher Alevtyna for her dedicated support during the six-month English course, including online classes. Her engaging and practical methods made learning enjoyable and the excellent textbook made it easier to understand. This course has significantly improved my English skills. I'm deeply grateful for its organisation.

– Steve

Since coming to the UK, I have been fortunate to meet many wonderful people and experience many amazing things, including teachers, church volunteers and classmates. I feel incredibly lucky and grateful to have met all of you. Thank you so much!

– Tommy

I am very grateful to the church for organising this English course, which offers new immigrants like me the opportunity to learn the language upon arriving in the UK. This support is invaluable for those of us not yet proficient in English.

Thank you Shirley Baptist Church for organising the English class. The textbooks, with their accompanying videos allow for easy review at any time. Special thanks to teacher Alevtyna for her dedicated teaching, helping us review and learn new things and greatly benefiting from it.
