On 30th November 2024, a group of 50 young refugees aged 16-24 embarked on an inspiring cultural trip to Cambridge, a city renowned for its rich history, world-class university, and vibrant intellectual atmosphere.
This excursion provided a unique opportunity to immerse in British culture, improve English skills, and form new friendships, all while exploring one of the most famous academic cities in the world.
The day began with a 90-minute guided tour of Cambridge University’s historic colleges, led by three expert guides. As participants walked through the centuries-old courtyards, chapels, and libraries, they learned about the university’s traditions, renowned scholars, and groundbreaking discoveries. The collegiate atmosphere and stunning architecture left a lasting impression, offering a glimpse into the prestigious world of British academia.
Following the tour, participants had five hours of free time to explore Cambridge’s cultural and historical landmarks. Many chose to visit:📍 The University Colleges – to further admire the impressive architecture and soak in the academic environment.📍 The Fitzwilliam Museum – home to an extraordinary collection of art and antiquities, spanning centuries and continents.📍 Punting along the River Cam – a classic Cambridge experience, offering stunning views of the colleges from the water.
This free time allowed each participant to tailor the experience to their interests, making the trip both educational and enjoyable.
Adding to the cultural significance of the day, participants had the opportunity to attend a performance by a Ukrainian choir, a deeply moving experience that blended familiar traditions with the backdrop of British heritage. This performance served as a beautiful reminder of cultural identity, resilience, and artistic expression, making the trip even more meaningful.
To ensure that future events continue to meet the needs of young refugees, feedback was collected from participants. Their insights will help shape even more enriching and engaging experiences in the future.
This trip to Cambridge was more than just a visit—it was an opportunity for learning, connection, and cultural exchange. Thank you to everyone who participated and made the day such a success. We look forward to many more inspiring excursions to come!
